Name: WINTER, William Arthur 'Bill'
Birth Date: 1890
Death Date: 29 Sep 1961 Nyeri
Profession: Mechanic, Winter's Garage
Area: Nyeri
Married: Daisy (1887-7 May 1965 Nairobi)
Children: Peter Wippel (7 Nov 1921 Paignton)
Book Reference: Campling, Barnes, Chandler
General Information:
Campling - In 1935 when Keith [Campling] arrived, Bill Winter was in charge of the Outspan Garage, but his inclinations were more to doing drawings and making building plans. He loved to sit at his drawing board in his office, dressed in his neat safari jacket with well-pressed shorts and socks and had little taste for the more practical side of things. ……
Bill Winter designed extensions to the Outspan and houses for the growing community of Europeans retiring to Nyeri, mostly retired Indian army or civil servants. Bill Winter's passion in life was trout fishing. There were many excellent rivers on the Aberdares and Mount Kenya, and he caught many a record catch ….
